05/22/19 – Luminate Law partner Elijah Yip joined Seith Reiss and Walter Coronel as a panelist in a presentation on the fundamentals of Internet Law. The seminar was sponsored by the Intellectual Property and Technology Law section of the Hawaii Bar Association. Yip presented on privacy law in the U.S. and the GDPR, while Reiss spoke about internet jurisdiction and online defamation issues, and Coronel discussed copyright law on the internet.
On April 26, 2019, Luminate Law partner Elijah Yip will be presenting a CLE seminar on the ethical duties of lawyers in regards to cybersecurity. Elijah will discuss what the rules of ethics require attorneys to do to protect their sensitive data from data breaches and cyberattacks. November 1, 2018 Luminate Law partner Dean Wang spoke to the Hawaii Freelancers Network about “Legal Wants and Needs of Entrepreneurs.” Dean discussed the absolute requirements for a small business to be compliant with the law and to avoid major legal risks. Dean also shared tips for minimizing legal risks and protect a business as a going concern. The seminar was held at Impact Hub Honolulu.

Elijah Yip spoke about social media law for employers at the September luncheon of the Hawaii chapters of the Institute of Internal Auditors Association and ISACA. Mr. Yip shared about federal regulation of discipline and termination of employees for social media conduct. The presentation also shared tips for using social media for recruiting.
